Yes! I am so happy! Why?! Because I’M GOING HOME! I can’t wait to get there. Steve and Kelly are driving down so I’m getting a ride with them. I am so excited! I didn’t tell anyone so it will be a surprise. YOu don’t know how happy I am to be going home. Now maybe I’ll get to see my brother and talk to him since he doesn’t live at home anymore. AND! I can go to a real club and listen to real music! I have to take some work with me but that’s okay :-) See ya!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The thrill of going home wasn’t just about the destination. It was about reconnecting with loved ones, surprising family, and indulging in experiences that rejuvenated my spirit. As leaders, this reflects a critical skill we must continuously hone: balancing our work with personal joy and reconnecting with what recharges us.
Leadership isn’t a 9-to-5 gig. It’s a 24/7 commitment that often requires you to carry your work with you, even when you’re on the move. This journal entry from my younger self highlights the importance of learning how to balance work responsibilities with personal time.
Balancing work is not just a necessity; it's a skill that demands intentional practice. Here’s how you can cultivate this skill:
Embrace Joy and Reconnection
Just as I was excited about surprising my family and catching up with my brother, you must find time to reconnect with what brings you joy. Whether it’s family, friends, or hobbies, these moments recharge you, making you a more effective leader.
Plan with Flexibility
Notice how I mentioned taking some work with me? It's essential to plan for your responsibilities but also to allow flexibility. By integrating work into personal time in a manageable way, you can stay on top of your duties without compromising your well-being.
Surprise and Delight
The excitement of surprising loved ones can be paralleled in leadership. Creating unexpected appreciation and recognition for your team creates a positive work environment. A little goes a long way :-)
Intentional Practice
Balancing work and life doesn’t come naturally; it requires conscious effort. Set boundaries, prioritize tasks, and make time for what matters most outside work. This intentional practice helps prevent burnout and maintains your passion for leadership.
Being a leader is a journey filled with responsibilities and the constant need to balance. But it’s also about finding joy, staying connected with loved ones, and ensuring that your personal life enriches your professional one. The happiness I felt about going home reminds us that joy and balance are essential parts of effective leadership.
So, take intentional steps to balance your work with your personal life. Embrace the joy of reconnecting with what you love and bring that positive energy into your leadership role.
Keep going, and remember to balance!
